Reading Comprehension Practice Exercise

Course-book Review
I would like to write a review on a certain course-book which we have learnt in our cadet life in the Defence Services Academy. The name of the book is “Reading Comprehension Practice Exercise”. This book is produced by the English Department of the academy.
It is an attractive book for cadets. It contains most military drills in the form of passages and short-stories. Some interesting units are Comradeship, Ammunition, Patrol, Long Range Penetration and so on. Most of the cadets like them very much because the mentioned subjects are relevant to real soldier life. The learners can study military terms and war theories through this book.
The original writing style of some well-known authors can also be studied. For instance, the extract named ‘Battle of Pyawbwe’ is denoted from ‘Defeat into Victory’ by Sir William Slim who is famous for his masterpieces.
The course-book can help the learners how to expand vocabularies through the very first item ‘How to use a dictionary’.
Moreover the course-book contains not only military topics but also romance. ‘The Christmas Present’ and ‘The Stolen Letter’ are outstanding ones.
The course-book can assist the reader the way to get or guess meaning from the context. It suggests that the learner can guess very often the meaning of a new word from other words used with it. The three items of the course-book explain about it widely.
The course-book is about the right level of difficulty for under-graduate students. This course-book is very suitable for the military academy it is most essential.
The course-book has been recommended by the authorities. The book follows the official syllabus. The activities, contents and methods used in the book are well-planned and executed. It has been prepared for the target examination. There is a good balance between what the examination requires and what the student need. It also contains useful hits on examination technique. On the whole, if you are appointed as an English teacher in a military academy, I’d like to suggest you not to hesitate to choose this course-book.
